John Dara, a 2019 presidential aspirant under the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has said that any politician above the age of 65 years should not be allowed to contest for political office or voted for in Nigeria, Daily Trust reports.
NAIJ.com gathered that Dara said this is as he added that old age among Nigeria's political leaders has been of disadvantage than blessings to the nation.
While formally joining SDP and declaring his intention to run for presidency in 2019 in his Ipee country home, Oyun local government area of Kwara state, Dara said that people above 65 years of age should no longer be voted into political office "as old age is part of the leadership problems in Nigeria."

The presidential aspirant who said that the nation is in a state of emergency and currently suffering from leadership deficit, added that many potential political leaders were being dogged by corruption while others still exhibit past military backgrounds in form of militocracy.
The 63-year-old who was a PDP governorship aspirant in Kwara state in 2015 general elections, called for collaborative efforts among Nigerians in the task of taking the country to next level of development.
He also called on progressive minded politicians to join the fold of the SDP to bringing the country from the brink of political and socioeconomic collapse.
The presidential aspirant, who said that political parties should serve as vehicle for social mobilisation, be value driven and obey rule of law, regretted that many political parties in the country lacked internal democracy and encouraged selfish interest and anarchy.
He said that the dominant political parties in the country had failed woefully in galvanizing internal democracy, adding that the nation urgently needed an ideological party with free enterprise without government intervention like the SDP.
NAIJ.com previously reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said blind persons above the age of 18 will be not be disenfranchised as they will be allowed to vote unaided in the 2019 general elections through ballot papers produced in braille.

The commission further stated that it was committed to ensuring that persons with disabilities were not disenfranchised in 2019, Punch reports.
The INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, said this during a campus outreach programme on the Continuous Voter Registration at the University of Abuja on Thursday, May 3.
