Yobe governor manages narrow escape after attack from Dapchi residents over abduction of schoolgirls

Vanguard reports that Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe state was attacked by angry residents of Dapchi, over the attack on the Government Girls Science Technical College.

The governor?s convoy was attacked on Thursday, February 22, by the aggrieved residents who were incensed by the confusion surrounding the abduction of the school girls; and two vehicles were damaged.

The publication reports that the residents threw stones and dangerous objects at the governor?s convoy; and the development was disclosed by Gaidam when he visited the community.

During the visit, Governor Gaidam told weeping family members of the students to keep praying that the girls be found.

The Punch is also reporting about the attack on the Yobe governor?s convoy in Dapchi.

According to the publication, Governor Ibrahim Gaidam?s visit was cut short as his convoy was pelted with stones.

The crowd was reportedly angry with the governor as they were at a loss over the whereabouts of the missing schoolgirls who reportedly fled into the bushes after their school was attacked by the Boko Haram terrorists on Monday, February 19.

The governor?s security detail had to use tear gas to disperse the angry crowd; and many officials in the convoy were reportedly seen with bloodstained clothes as they were injured in the attack.

The publication reports that Tinubu accused Oyegun of frustrating reconciliation efforts in the ruling party.

According to Tinubu, Oyegun had compounded the challenge of reconciliation by taking ?improper unilateral decisions? on issues affecting national and state chapters.

He further stated that the national chairman had refused to cooperate by delaying the release of information critical to the resolution of crises in state chapters.

The Guardian, however, is reporting that the APC?s National Working Committee has come under the scrutiny of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

According to the paper, the anti-graft agency may have begun investigating how the Oyegun-led National Working Committee has been spending party funds.

The move follows a strongly worded letter said to have been written by the the party?s national leader, Bola Tinubu, accusing Oyegun of frustrating his efforts at reconciling aggrieved members of the party.

The publication further disclosed that its sources reported that EFCC officials stormed the party?s secretariat at about 12pm on Thursday, February 22, in a black SUV and headed straight to the office of the national chairman.
