- He further expressed confidence in the ruling party
Lanre Tejuoso, a senator representing Ogun central senatorial district, has told members of his constituency to disregard rumours that he has defected from the All Progressive Congress (APC), adding that though he had wanted to leave with his co-senators recently, President Muhammadu Buhari convinced him to stay.
Punch reports that Tejuoso, who is the chairman of Senate committee on health, said this on Monday, September 3, in Abeokuta at a press conference where he informed members of the public that he would be seeking re-election to the same position come 2019.

He further stated that his intention to leave the party before was as a result of a little misunderstanding in the party at the local level.
He said: "I cannot leave APC. I will only leave if President Buhari leaves. When the incident (attempted defection) happened, mr. president called me and told me he wants me back in the party. What happened is just a misunderstanding at the local level of the party and it has been resolved."
When asked about his view on the direct primaries approach adopted by his party, and if he was in a good terms with the incumbent governor of the state, Ibikunle Amosun, the senator said the he remains his mentor, and that he would always support the decision of his party.
He further stated: ?You know Ogun State is known in Nigeria to be the first in most things. It has been established that for democracy to thrive and to catch up with that of the developed nations, direct primary is the answer and since Ogun state is always the first I am sure my governor will surely support it because he always wants the best for the state."
?I am sure he will lead and others will follow and we are going to do direct primary by God?s grace in Ogun state and I am sure my governor will agree."

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that the APC in Ogun state had disassociated itself from the recent purported defection of senator Lanre Tejuoso in July, 2018.
The Ogun state APC describing Tejuoso as a former member of the ruling party said it had followed the events within the polity with keen interest, particularly as it affected the lawmaker's defection to the opposition party.
