2019: Unease in Nasarawa as governor threatens to arrest politicians making inciting statements

The governor of Nasarawa state, Tanko Al-Makura, has threatened to arrest and prosecute any politician who makes inciting utterances capable of creating crisis in the state. He made the comment over the weekend.

The governor of Nasarawa state, Tanko Al-Makura, has threatened to arrest and prosecute any politician who makes inciting utterances capable of creating crisis in the state, Daily Trust reports.

He made the comment at the commissioning of 35 brand new vehicles donated to security operatives by the state government over the weekend.

In his words: ?Considering that we are inching towards the 2019 elections in the country, let me use the opportunity of this occasion to call on all ethnic nationalities in Nasarawa State; especially those living at the border communities, to eschew bitterness and embrace peace and harmony.

?This is the only way we can be our brothers? keepers.

?This call is necessary, realizing the fact that nothing escalates crisis like inordinate utterances.

?To lend my voice to the call by the presidency, therefore, I need to warn that any individual or group caught making utterances that will lead to conflict will face the wrath of the law.?

Al-Makura appealed to religious, opinion and community leaders to caution their followers against uttering hate speeches.

       

           

               

                   
               

           

       

       

He noted that due to the spillover of the herdsmen-farmers crisis in neighboring Benuestate of middle belt region, there had been security challenges in Nasarawa.

However, he stated that he would not engage in any sort of blame game over the issue.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that Governor Tanko Al-Makura declared that the re-election bid of President Muhammadu Buhari come 2019 was already a done deal.

The governor made the declaration while receiving members of the Democratic Youth Assembly (DYA), who paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House, Lafia.

He revealed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) governors were only waiting for electioneering activities to begin for them to launch their campaign for the president.
