In a bid to end incessant attacks in Plateau state of middle belt region, OPSH reinforces security measures

As more rural communities in Plateau come under attacks, Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), the outfit in charge of security in the north-central state, says it has reinforced measures to check the trend.

NAN reports that its spokesperson, Major Adam Umar, in a statement in Jos on Tuesday, September 4, said that patrols had been intensified in affected areas to ward off further attacks.

NAIJ.com notes that the statement read: ?We have adopted stringent measures to deal with the situation; we shall not relent until every corner in Plateau is secured."

Recall that people were killed and 12 others injured in Du District of Jos south where gunmen invaded Dwei community on Sunday, September 2.

Two other people were also confirmed killed in Kpachidu village in Bassa local government the same day.

Umar, who described the attacks as ?unfortunate?, said that the patrols would be intense to ensure that there was no hiding place for the attackers.

The official assured the general public of OPSH?s determination to protect lives and property, and urged them to cooperate with security outfit.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that the US strongly condemned the attacks in Plateau in which no fewer than 86 people were killed and several others injured.

The US in a statement by Heather Nauert, spokesperson for the US Department of State, said the perpetrators of the attacks should be brought to justice.

Nauert said: ?The United States condemns in the strongest possible terms the killing of civilians and destruction of property in Nigeria?s Middle Belt region over the weekend.

?We are concerned by the recent increase in armed violence against civilians and call on all political and community leaders to lend their voices to peace and to work together to find lasting solutions to these rural conflicts."
