Croatia coach blasts Ronaldo after Modric was named UEFA Player of the Year

For the first time since the 2012-13 season, Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo was not named the UEFA Men's Player of the Year award. It was Croatia's Luka Modric who picked up the honour earlier after his impressive showing.

For the first time since the 2012-13 season, Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo were not given the UEFA Men's Player of the Year award .

It was Croatia's Luka Modric who picked up the honour earlier this week after producing several midfield masterclasses as Real Madrid won a third consecutive Champions League on the bounce.

Many people feel Los Blancos playmaker was a deserving winner, but the decision has not gone down well with Cristiano and those close to him.

Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendez claimed it was "ridiculous" and shameful" his client did not win the award, while the Juventus striker was not impressed by the snub.

Now, Modric's national team manager Zlatko Dalic has launched an attack on the Portuguese star.

Dalic told Croatian newspaper Sportske Novosti, via Goal: "(Cristiano) Ronaldo not attending the UEFA ceremony and those comments about Luka winning it...

"It is not worthy of my comment! It only proves what I keep saying: Ronaldo is an egotist and I'd never want him in my team!"

Dalic continued: ?He is the kind of player that only thinks 'no matter if we lose, the only thing that matters is that I score a goal!?.?

The 51-year-old did not hold back whatsoever with his scathing assessment of Ronaldo, who did however, win the prize for 2017-18 UEFA Forward of the Season.

The Juventus 33-year-old striker's reaction to Modric pipping him to the main award certainly could have been better after spending six great years together in at the Bernabeu.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri has revealed that Portugal superstar Cristiano Ronaldo was "angry" after ex-teammate Luka Modric claimed the UEFA's Player of the Year.

According to an ESPN report, the Bianconeri boss also wants the decision of the former Los Blancos star not to be present at the ceremony in Monaco to be respected.
