Mahama criticises ?mass sacking? by Akufo-Addo govt

Former President John Mahama has criticised the ?mass sacking of workers by the NPP government.?
In two tweets on Friday, he condemned the act; describing it as a bad precedent for Ghana?s governance.
?Bad precedents for our governance. Mass sacking of workers by the NPP govt unacceptable. These workers are all citizens and like all Ghanaians have rights, which must be protected,? the former President said in the tweets.

Although the former President did not mention any specific dismal, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the former President's party, has raised similar concerns.
The Minority NDC was critical of President Nana Akufo-Addo?s directive to the Administrator of the District Assemblies? Common Fund, Kojo Fynn, to proceed on indefinite leave.
The office of the Administrator of the District Assemblies? Common Fund is categorised under Article 70 of the Constitution and is supposed to enjoy secure tenure.
The appointments of all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) were also revoked days after the President was sworn into office.
Aside from this, the National Service Scheme (NSS) also revoked the appointment of persons who were employed at the Secretariat towards the end of the Mahama Administration in December 2016.
The Chief Executives of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), National Communications Authority (NCA) among others have all had their appointments prematurely terminated.
These sacked officials are largely perceived to be sympathetic to the erstwhile Mahama administration.
In March, the Minority in Parliament slammed government?s approach to the removal of some heads of government institutions a few days before the Akufo-Addo administration took over.
On the Floor of Parliament, the NDC MP for Wa West, Joseph Yileh Chireh, said the recent dismissals of some top executives is most undignified and contrary to due process.

Respect NEC's decision, relinquish party positions - NPP Election Director

The Volta regional New Patriotic Party (NPP) Election Director has entreated his executives who have been appointed by government to heed to a decision by the party's National Executive Council (NEC) and relinquish their positions in the party.
Korsi Bodja said the decision by NEC must be respected by Volta regional executives "as signs of negligence and absolute shirk of responsibility begin to rear its ugly heads at the regional party secretariat, that was beaming with party activities."
He envisaged that the party might suffer an apathy due to "the current disposition of our regional executives" judging from the National Democratic Congress' (NDC) experience in the 2016 elections.
Mr Bodja, therefore, advised that the party should not be complacent after wrestling power from a stiff opposition but must work towards winning over more sympathisers in the region.
He believes this will enhance achieve the agenda 3/30, thus winning 3 parliamentary seats and polling 30% of total votes in the Volta Region.
"We must engage party loyalists, polling station and constituency executives and all those who matter, for the collective good and make the party more attractive in the region", he said.
In this regard, Mr Bodja stressed that regional executives who are offered appointments in government must relinquish their party positions for constitutionally mandate party executives or appointees to step in to reignite party activities in the region.
He commended the party's National Youth Organiser, Sammy Awuku and other regional executives who turned down government appointment.
"The fact that we need competent hands in government does not mean the party should be left at the mercy of our opponents who are ready to bounce back to power within the shortest time," he added.

The host of Adom FM?s flagship morning show ?Dwaso Ns?m? Captain Smart is leading a demonstration dubbed ?Fab?woso? to raise awareness about the high levels of corruption in Ghana Friday.

Tens and thousands of protestors will converge at the Obra Spot at Kwame Nkrumah Circle and march towards the Farrisco Traffic Light, through to TUC before arriving at the offices of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
Participants who would be clad in red and black with placards calling for investigation and prosecution of persons alleged to have been involved in corrupt acts in various reports especially, the Auditor General?s report, will then pass through the Farrisco Traffic Light through to TUC before arriving at the offices of EOCO.
